The Opportunity:Laing O'Rourke has an opportunity for an Electrical Design Manager to join our team on projects with National Grid, based between our Dartford HQ and the substation project in Elstree, Hertfordshire. The Design Manager will review and deliver all design information in accordance with our procedures, ensuring completeness and compliance with contractual obligations, considering factors such as programme, buildability, safety, maintenance, and technical suitability. They will oversee the production, control, and distribution of design information at various project stages and ensure regular progress reporting.
The Design Manager is a senior member of our Design Job Family and Technical Function, dedicated to ensuring technical excellence, assurance, and performance across all projects, from pre-project engagement to delivery. All our designers are part of our Engineering Enterprise, which aims to maximize and realize the potential of design to increase certainty on our projects.
What will the role look like?- Supporting consultant teams to maximize their effectiveness and value in delivering integrated design solutions that meet client and business needs (strategies and budgets).
- Enhancing the effectiveness of consultant relationships.
- Reviewing design delivery to improve solution quality and efficiency across design, procurement, manufacturing, assembly, commissioning, and handover.
- Supporting consultants in adopting Laing O'Rourke's design processes, ensuring rigorous project management, and fostering effective collaboration throughout the supply chain (including tools like BIM/Digital Engineering).
- Capturing business knowledge to enable continuous improvement, innovation, and capability development within our Engineering Enterprise.

- Design compliance
- A first degree in Electrical Engineering or a relevant construction-related qualification with design experience.
- Approximately 5 years of experience, including managing design end-to-end from concept to handover, across various procurement routes and sectors.
