Job: Design Engineer Company: BAE Systems Hourly Rate: £31.29 PAYE or £42.08 UmbrellaLocation: Portsmouth - hybridContract: 12 months (Opportunity to be extended)Working Hours: 37 hours per weekAbout The RoleTo undertake a defined range of detail design activities in line with all relevant processes and quality requirements of Mechanical/Piping design package and reports for Installation solutions on Legacy Warships, supplying advice and support to operations and other functions and/or to organise and co-ordinate aspects of detail design activity ensuring defined objectives are achieved whilst continually maintaining quality and service requirements.Key Responsibilities:

• Support the development of best practice to increase the capability, performance of tools and processes
• Support the developing, maintaining and modifying engineering processes and procedures in assigned areas in response to technical developments and operational need
• To identify training requirements, skills gaps and development requirements of own discipline.
• Undertake task verification/checking of other Design Engineer's work as directed by Principal Engineering Manager.
• To lead and conduct ship trials, surveys and engineering support activities.

Skills & Qualifications:

• Possesses in-depth knowledge and design experience of all aspects within Mechanical/Piping Disipline using AutoCAD/Inventor.
• Able to perform robust analysis using recognised draughting and analytical tools and to make sound judgements based on experience.
• Has sufficient breadth of knowledge of warship design and the sound judgement needed to be able make correct trade-off decisions
• Provide technical support and troubleshooting responses in assigned areas to operational units or other activities.
