About Our Client

The client is a well-established University in South West London.

Job Description

Main duties and responsibilities:

  1. Year End Accounts: Lead on the planning and delivery of annual financial statements for the University and its subsidiaries, ensuring approval by senior management. Satisfy all audit requirements and submit returns to external parties (OfS, Charity Commission, Companies House, etc.). Develop and maintain strong relationships with external auditors. Provide technical accounting assistance and advice throughout the year.
  2. External Returns: Preparation of relevant external returns, including OfS returns such as TRAC, HE-BCI, and AFR.
  3. Quarterly Tasks: Review and prepare balance sheet and cash flow forecasts for various cycles. Manage covenants to ensure compliance with lenders.
  4. Technical Support: Develop technical accounting papers to support judgements in year-end financial statements.
  5. Monthly Tasks: Review and approve month-end journals (accruals, depreciation, research, donations, etc.), prepare or review balance sheet and cash flow forecasts, and manage balance sheet reconciliations. Prepare management information and act as liaison with banks and investment managers.
  6. Daily/Weekly Tasks: Review debtor aging, monitor treasury operations, ensure funds availability, and oversee electronic payments.
  7. General and Ad-hoc: Promote adherence to policies, ensure data accuracy, deputise for team members, and approve payments.

The Successful Applicant

A recognised accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA, ACMA, CIPFA). Good knowledge of UK Financial Reporting Standard 102. Excellent analytical, technical accounting, and communication skills. Familiarity with large-scale finance systems, especially Unit 4 Agresso. Management experience is essential.
