Are you an experienced Debt Recovery professional with knowledge of Council Tax, Sundry Debt Recovery, or Enforcement processes? We're recruiting for four Debt Recovery & Enforcement Officers to join a busy local authority team responsible for maximising income collection while delivering a professional and customer-focused service.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a high-performing revenues team and play a key role in recovering outstanding debts in accordance with legislation, court procedures, and council policies.

Location & Working Arrangements

• Office Base: Wembley
• Hybrid Working: Minimum 1-2 days per week in the office required, depending on business needs and meetings
• Flexible hybrid working arrangements apply subject to service requirements

Contract Details

• Immediate Start
• Ongoing Temporary Assignment
• Potential for long-term extension

Pay Rates

• £18.65 per hour PAYE
• £24.65 per hour Umbrella

The Role

As a Debt Recovery & Enforcement Officer, you will be responsible for recovering and enforcing debts across a range of portfolios, including Council Tax, NEC Sundry Debts (Oracle Advanced Collections), and other debt streams managed by the Council.

You will assess cases, determine appropriate recovery action, liaise with customers and enforcement agencies, and ensure all activity is carried out in line with current legislation, case law, and local policies.

Key Responsibilities

• Recover outstanding debts and maximise income collection across designated debt portfolios.
• Manage Council Tax, Sundry Debt and other recovery cases from initial recovery through to enforcement action.
• Assess cases objectively and determine the most appropriate recovery route.
• Ensure all recovery and enforcement activity complies with legislation, case law, and Council policies.
• Liaise with customers, courts, enforcement agents, and other stakeholders to resolve outstanding debts.
• Maintain accurate records and case notes on relevant systems.
• Provide advice and support to customers while balancing the Council's responsibility to collect revenue effectively.
• Support the delivery of the Council's Debt Recovery Policy and financial objectives.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Previous experience working within debt recovery, revenues, enforcement, or income collection.
• Knowledge of Council Tax Recovery, NEC Sundry Debts, or similar debt recovery environments.
• Understanding of County Court and/or Magistrates' Court procedures relating to debt recovery and enforcement.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to negotiate effectively.
• Excellent analytical, numerical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience interpreting and applying legislation, policies, and procedures.
• Strong customer service skills and experience working within a diverse community setting.
• The ability to manage a varied caseload and work effectively under pressure.
