Dawes Senior Clinical Fellow in Neurology

One year, fixed term Clinical Neurology Fellow post focusing on Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). The role is funded from a legacy donation and aims to transform regional TBI care across the Southwest London and Surrey Major Trauma Network. The post will serve as a catalyst for improving care by mapping a TBI network on major trauma infrastructure regionally, creating a model of care with national relevance.
The department prides itself on education and training, consistently ranking among the highest performing neurosciences units in the UK on the GMC Trainee Surveys. We support clinical fellows to secure NTNs in neurology or allied disciplines, and we tailor training to individual needs, including senior registrar training for post CCT candidates seeking consultant positions.
Main duties of the job- Focus on TBI, particularly on regional TBI service improvement within the SW London and Surrey major trauma network.
- Develop strong working links with the Clinical Director for Major Trauma at St George's and the Clinical Director for Major Trauma for the SW London and Surrey Major Trauma Network.
- Map a TBI network onto the established major trauma infrastructure across the region, improving patient care in the seven regional trauma units.
- Support the team's aspiration to coordinate a regional approach to care, which has previously been unachievable due to limited TBI consultant time.
St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the main teaching hospital in the southwest sector of London, with links to district general hospitals across Surrey and Sussex and a robust training programme for junior doctors. The Trust operates on three sites: St George's Hospital, Queen Mary's Hospital Roehampton and St. John's Therapy Centre in Battersea, serving a population of about 1.3 million across South West London. Neurosciences services serve approximately 3.5 million people.
The discipline of Neurosciences moved to a purpose built wing at St George's in 2003, now offering state of the art diagnostic and treatment facilities.

Person Specification Qualifications- MB BChir (or equivalent)
- MRCP(UK) (or a waiver, which may be granted for a very well written application)
- GMC registration
- BA or BSc (or equivalent)
- MD or PhD
- Experience in Neurology or Stroke Medicine
- Willingness to contribute to management
- Willingness to participate in the clinical audit programme
- Computer literacy
- Demonstrable research interest
- Evidence of academic distinction
- Papers presented at national and international meetings
- Peer reviewed publications
- Previous research experience
- Ability to work as a member of a team
- Evidence of good communication skills
