Data Scientist Lead - Optics11 is making the unseen measurable, from the ocean floor to the power grid. We need a hands on technical expert to lead the development of advanced signal processing algorithms and guide a multidisciplinary team toward cutting edge innovation.
Optics11 is an Amsterdam based high tech scale up focused on underwater security, with a novel fiber optic technology redefining the industry. Our towed array technology has been selected for the new generation of Dutch submarines. As we move toward commercial deployments, we seek ambitious, mission driven professionals to shape our growth.
Responsibilities- Lead and manage the Data Processing Team, fostering a collaborative and innovative culture while defining clear goals.
- Mentor, motivate, and develop technical knowledge among team members to enable high performance and professional growth.
- Oversee the design, development, and testing of data processing algorithms and architectures.
- Provide hands on technical guidance to resolve complex challenges in data processing.
- Drive innovation by actively participating in brainstorming and technical problem solving sessions.
- Promote continuous improvement in development processes and methodologies.
- Provide technical input to senior leadership for product roadmaps and strategic decisions.

- MSc in Mathematics, Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field.
- Minimum of 5+ years of R&D experience, with a proven track record in data handling and algorithm development.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a leadership/management role within a technical environment.
- Proven experience in leading data engineering or data science teams.
- Strong background in algorithm development, statistical analysis, and data modelling.
- Expertise in big data technologies, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), and modern data stack tools.
- Proficiency in Python, SQL, and data processing frameworks.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues efficiently.
- Strong communication skills, translating technical concepts for stakeholders.
- Proactive, hands on, result driven mindset.
- Strategic thinker with a problem solving attitude.
- Experience with real time data processing and streaming technologies.
- Experience implementing IoT based workflows.
- Familiarity with machine learning workflows and MLOps.
Clients work in the defence and security sectors. A Certificate of No Objection issued by the AIVD (Dutch General Intelligence and Security Service) is mandatory; security screening is required.
