Data Use Case Product Owner - Freelance

We are seeking a Data Use Case Product Owner to join a customer in Belgium for a long-term freelance mission.

The consultant will lead and coordinate the end-to-end delivery of data-driven use cases into a modern data lake environment, bridging business, IT, and data engineering teams.

They will play a key role in ensuring the quality, governance, and strategic alignment of all data initiatives across multiple domains.

The environment includes the migration to a cloud-based Data Lake (Azure), the rollout of governance frameworks such as Azure Purview, and the scaling of data-driven use cases in areas like Finance, Operations, and HR.

The selected consultant will work closely with business stakeholders, data engineers, and governance teams to prioritize and deliver high-value use cases in line with the broader data strategy.

Responsibilities

• Intake, assess, and prioritize data use cases across multiple business units
• Coordinate the realization of use cases with multidisciplinary teams (engineers, analysts, stakeholders)
• Lead agile delivery squads focused on data delivery and data quality
• Oversee the provisioning of source data into the data lake in line with architecture standards
• Safeguard data governance, metadata management, and compliance practices
• Document data flows, definitions, and outputs clearly and thoroughly
• Act as the main point of contact between business, IT, and data teams
• Report progress, risks, and issues to management and governance boards
• Identify and implement improvements to the data delivery and use case realization process

Profile

• 5+ years experience in data delivery, product ownership, or data coordination roles
• Strong knowledge of cloud data platforms (Azure Data Lake, Synapse, Data Factory, Databricks)
• Experience working in agile and/or hybrid environments with a data focus
• Good understanding of data modeling, data architecture, and data governance (GDPR, privacy-by-design)
• Hands-on experience with metadata management tools (e.g., Azure Purview, Collibra)
• Strong stakeholder management, communication, and coordination skills
• Dutch speaking (mandatory)
