Job Description
Job Title: Data Engineer
Reporting to: Head of Innovation
Date of Issue: July 2025
Reporting to the Head of Innovation, you will join a newly formed team to support the delivery of a major data transformation initiative. As a hands on and forward thinking Data Engineer, you'll be instrumental in designing and implementing a robust, scalable data platform that underpins the business's strategic growth. This role offers a unique opportunity to help shape a best in class data engineering function from the ground up.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines for collecting, processing, and storing large datasets.
- Develop and optimize database systems, ensuring data integrity, performance, and security.
- Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and other stakeholders to understand data requirements and provide support for analytics.
- Implement data integration and transformation processes (ETL) from various sources to ensure high-quality, accessible data.
- Ensure data integrity and reconciliation across multiple platforms to maintain accuracy in reporting and analytics.
- Monitor and optimise data infrastructure performance to ensure high reliability.
- Undertake all other duties as reasonably required.

Person SpecificationQualifications
- Batchelors/Masters Degree in Finance/Economics or similar discipline.
- Excellent quantitative academic credentials (Maths / statistics, engineering, science).
Knowledge and experience
- Ideally a working knowledge of Azure Cloud Platforms, or strong transferable skills from other cloud platforms.
- Experience using SQL for database management essential.
- Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, or Scala) desirable.
- Experience with data pipeline frameworks and ETL tools and familiarity with big data technologies.
- Understanding of version control principles and tools essential.
- Knowledge of data integration tools and languages (e.g., APIs, JSON, XML, Web Services) desirable.
- The ability to resolve complex and non-routine issues and identify improvements in the testing and validation of data accuracy.
- Enthusiasm to develop your skills, take responsibility and work within an ambitious and rapidly developing data team.
- Ability to effectively participate in cross-functional problem-solving teams.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook, and Excel (expert).
- Experience leading team members or small projects an advantage.
