The Role

Herefordshire Council are seeking a committed, knowledgeable and experienced Building Surveyor to join our Building Control Team in an enforcement role. What will you be doing?

As the Dangerous Structurers and Enforcement officer you will work closely with the councils RBI's and technical support staff to attend and process reports of dangerous structures and enforcement issues across the county. The restricted activities of the enforcement process will remain with the RBI's. Under the direction of the Principle Building Control Surveyor or an RBI, you will work at an operational level, including day to day activities, site inspections, investigate and process enforcement issues, together with the administrative duties of the department. This will involve preparing detailed reports and documents in conjunction with the RBI's to produce documents for the council's legal department to use for formal enforcement. You will deal with both internal and external customers which will be in respect of building control related areas, including regulation applications, site inspections, pre application advice, potentially dangerous structure reports and relevant enforcement enquiries. Work closely with our IT providers to ensure up to date and accurate computer records are maintained, with preparation of periodic data reports. You will work closely with colleagues in Building Control to address the council's work on projects and report directly to the Principle Building Control Surveyor.

About You
  • Portray yourself as a position of authority, ideally with enforcement experience.
  • An understanding of the role, requirements of the building safety regulator and demonstrable experience and knowledge in this specialist area.
  • Strong knowledge of building control, regulatory issues and current legislation.
  • The ability to work under your own initiative as well as within a team, often to tight deadlines and on multiple work streams.
