A leading international organisation is seeking a Customs & Excise Tax Specialist to join its growing finance and tax team. This is an excellent opportunity for a customs and excise professional looking to take ownership of compliance, advisory and process improvement activities within a complex, fast-paced environment.

The role is primarily based in Hounslow, although a remote-first arrangement can be considered for the right candidate, with existing team members located across the UK.

The Role

Reporting into senior finance leadership, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all customs and excise regulations, managing relationships with key stakeholders, and providing expert guidance on customs duty and excise-related matters.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing customs and excise compliance activities across the business.
  • Preparing, reviewing and submitting customs and excise returns accurately and on time.
  • Advising internal stakeholders on customs duty, excise duty, import/export regulations and indirect tax matters.
  • Supporting the preparation and review of corporation tax computations, tax provisions and quarterly tax reporting.
  • Assisting with VAT compliance, including reviewing VAT returns and providing guidance on indirect tax matters.
  • Supporting the business on employment tax and benefits-in-kind queries where required.
  • Assisting with transfer pricing documentation and other international tax compliance obligations.
  • Monitoring legislative and regulatory changes and assessing their impact on the business.
  • Supporting HMRC audits, enquiries and compliance reviews.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve processes, controls and efficiencies relating to customs and excise activities.
  • Working closely with operational, finance and logistics teams to ensure compliance across all transactions.
  • Assisting with customs classifications, valuation methodologies and duty optimisation initiatives.
  • Supporting projects, acquisitions and business changes from a customs and excise perspective.
  • Maintaining robust documentation, policies and procedures.
About You

The successful candidate is likely to have:

  • Proven experience in a Customs, Excise, Indirect Tax or Trade Compliance role.
  • Strong understanding of UK customs legislation, excise regulations and HMRC requirements.
  • Experience dealing directly with HMRC and external advisors.
  • Knowledge of import/export procedures and customs declarations.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience within logistics, transportation, aviation, supply chain, distribution or a similarly complex operational environment would be advantageous.
  • Relevant customs, tax or trade compliance qualifications would be beneficial but are not essential.
What's on Offer
  • Opportunity to join a large, internationally recognised organisation.
  • Remote-first working environment with flexibility around location.
  • Exposure to a broad range of customs, excise and indirect tax matters.
  • Collaborative and supportive team culture.
  • Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package.
  • Excellent long-term career development opportunities.
