Job Description

Customer Support Engineer - GE Smallworld:


For one of our globally leading tech clients we are urgently looking for an experienced Customer Support Engineer - GE Smallworld for a long contract based in Amsterdam.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Address and resolve customer issues related to GE Smallworld applications, including Electric Office (EO) and associated tools.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive closure of complex problems.
  • Provide expert-level troubleshooting and debugging support across GE Smallworld suite components.
  • Perform system configuration, patch installation, and product upgrades on customer environments.
  • Install and configure third-party software, such as ONA and Data Center Management tools.
  • Analyze logs and debug files to identify root causes and implement solutions.
  • Support Oracle Database and VMDS configurations as required.
  • Apply object-oriented programming techniques and scripting knowledge to enhance system performance.
  • Maintain strong documentation practices for knowledge sharing and customer transparency.
  • Communicate effectively with customers and internal stakeholders to ensure issue resolution and service quality.


Competencies:

  • EIS: Smallworld Electric Office Suite (EO)
  • EIS: Magik Programming Language



Essential Skills:

  • 5+ years of experience in GE Smallworld platforms: PNI, SW4, SW5, EO, GDO, GTO, GSS, GSA, DM, MES, NRM, K8.
  • Proficiency in Magik, Java, SQL, shell scripting, and Oracle Database.
  • Strong knowledge of VMDS and installation/configuration of GE Smallworld product suites.
  • Experience installing and applying patches and fixes in live environments.
  • Proven track record in issue identification, troubleshooting, and resolution.
  • Ability to read logs, debug files, and execute root cause analysis effectively.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and MS Outlook.
  • Strong communication skills - both written and verbal.


Desirable Skills:

  • System administration experience (Linux/Unix).
  • Object-Oriented programming experience.
  • Familiarity with Data Center Management tools.
  • Experience with enterprise GIS support or telecom/utility sector applications.
