The Crown Court Clerk supports the smooth operation of Crown Court hearings by speaking confidently in court, liaising with judges and participants, and producing accurate, timely court documents. This role may include management responsibilities.

About HM Courts & Tribunals Service

HMCTS administers criminal, civil and family courts and tribunals in England and Wales, supporting service users and colleagues across the organization.

About You

You are a confident communicator who can speak publicly in court, interact calmly with judges, the defence, prosecution, media and the public, and handle complex and sensitive matters. You are a team player, able to ensure the efficient running of daily court sittings, manage documentation, and maintain focus under pressure. You are resilient, motivated to learn, and adapt to new technologies.

Your skills and experience
  • Able to speak publicly in a courtroom environment.
  • Motivates and supports a team to deliver excellent customer service and achieve effective performance.
  • Excellent communication, organisational and prioritisation skills.
  • Completes documents accurately and meets deadlines.
  • IT proficient with the ability to learn and adapt to different technologies and software packages.
Eligibility and Working Arrangements

This role is not eligible for Skilled Worker visas under current immigration rules. Applicants must have the legal right to live and work in the UK.

Work locations include Basildon, Ipswich and Colchester, with hybrid working arrangements available in the UK (minimum 60 % office time). Full time hours are 37 per week, Monday to Friday.
