Your role as a Crown Court Clerk ensures Crown Court hearings run smoothly. You will communicate confidently with judges and all participants, produce accurate and timely court documents, and support the efficient running of daily courts.
Responsibilities- Ensure smooth running of Crown Court hearings.
- Communicate confidently with judges, defense, prosecution, media, members of the public, and other stakeholders about complex and sensitive matters.
- Produce accurate, time critical documents including verdicts, arraignments, court orders, and hearing outcomes.
- Work as a team player with the clerking team, intervening in court when required and maximizing judicial sitting time.
- Perform compliance checking of work completed by the clerk team, analyzing reports to identify and resolve errors.
- Analyze relevant reports and ensure court work is completed within appropriate time frames to the highest standard.
You should possess the following skills and experience:
- Ability to speak publicly and within a court room environment.
- Excellent communication, organization and prioritization skills.
- Documentation accuracy and ability to meet deadlines.
- IT proficiency and aptitude for learning and adapting to different technologies and software packages.
- Resilience and willingness to learn within processes.
Base location: Cardiff Crown Court, The Law Courts, Cathays Park, Cardiff CF10 3PG.
Travel to the following courts may be required:
- Merthyr Tydfil Combined Court Centre, The Law Courts, Glebeland Place, Merthyr Tydfil, CF47 8BH
- Newport (South Wales) Crown Court, The Law Courts, Faulkner Road, Newport NP20 4PR
- Swansea Crown Court, The Law Courts, St Helen's Road, Swansea SA1 1SP
The role is full time (37 hours per week). Hybrid working will not be considered.
Skilled Worker VisaThis role is not eligible for new Skilled Worker visas under current immigration rules unless you have held such a visa continuously since before 22 July 2025.
