Job Title: Correspondence and Communications ManagerSalary: 46K
Location: Manchester/ Hybrid
Contract: Permanent
We are seeking an experienced Correspondence and Communications Manager to play a leading role in managing and responding to a wide range of enquiries from senior stakeholders, including parliamentarians, senior officials, business leaders, partner organisations and members of the public.This role is central to the organisation's public-facing activity. The correspondence function is critical to maintaining trust and credibility, requiring excellent written communication skills, sound judgement, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
You will be responsible for:

  • Managing the correspondence inbox on a daily basis, ensuring all enquiries are logged, assessed and allocated appropriately.
  • Ensuring timely, accurate and high-quality responses to all correspondence.
  • Drafting letters and emails on a wide range of complex and sensitive issues, coordinating input from colleagues where necessary.
  • Providing tailored advice and guidance to teams on handling correspondence effectively and appropriately.
  • Identifying and escalating correspondence with potential reputational risk, ensuring issues are managed and resolved promptly.
  • Keeping up to date with relevant news, public interest issues and organisational priorities to inform responses.
  • Supporting the day-to-day running of the correspondence function, working closely with senior communications colleagues.
  • Line managing staff and representing the correspondence function at internal meetings.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Proven experience writing for different audiences on a range of topics.
  • The ability to understand complex or technical information and communicate it clearly in plain English.
  • Experience of line management and managing a team on a day-to-day basis.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to work under pressure and manage competing deadlines.
  • Confidence handling challenging or sensitive enquiries by phone and in writing.
  • The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, prioritising work effectively.
  • Strong relationship-building skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across all levels of an organisation.
  • Experience working in a public-facing, stakeholder-driven or high-profile environment (desirable).
