Purpose of the Mission
2.1. General
A leading Belgian public health insurance provider is seeking to appoint a senior consultant to temporarily take on the role of Manager of Management Control, reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
This consultant will be responsible for leading a team of 7 members, ensuring the day-to-day operations ("run"), strengthening team dynamics, and promoting a rapid upskilling of the team. The aim is to enhance the team's ability to deliver in a more structured, efficient, and composed manner, thereby providing better support to the organization.
2.2. Missions
Management of the Management Control Department:
- Structure, lead, and develop the skills of the team (financial controlling, operational controlling, finance business partners);
- Ensure the reliability, consistency, and timeliness of the department's deliverables;
- Contribute to the preparation of business cases (investments, projects).
Financial Performance Management:
- Oversee monthly closing control processes, forecasts, budgets, and medium-term plans;
- Provide economic and financial analyses to support the executive committee's strategy and decision-making;
- Work closely with the accounting team, procurement, facilities, HR, and other operational departments.
Optimization of Tools and Processes:
- Lead continuous improvement projects related to performance management and reporting processes;
- Act as the functional sponsor for Tableau tools;
- Standardize and automate reporting.
Support to the Finance Department:
- Participate in strategic financial matters;
- Prepare presentations for governance bodies (executive committee, board of directors, general assembly, works council, etc.).
2.3. Deliverables
Specifically, the expected deliverables include:
- Ensure the daily operations (run), which includes making sure the team:
- Controls expenses and analyzes variances, produces monthly actuals reports, prepares and documents forecasts and budgets according to a predefined schedule;
- Integrates the control of two non-profit organizations affiliated with the health insurance provider into the team's scope;
- Continuously improves the BI reporting tools;
- Establishes and follows a process for developing 4-year projections.
- Reinforce team dynamics, not only within the management control department but also with other departments such as accounting, procurement, HR, and business operations.
- Review and optimize the department's organization, including:
- Key work procedures: monthly closing, forecasting, and budgeting;
- Distribution of roles and responsibilities among team members.
- Ensure the team provides strong support to the organization's financial management maturity (business partnering).
3. Desired Qualifications and Experience
The consultant ideally has the following experience and qualifications:
- Master's degree in finance or management;
- At least 10 years of experience in management control, with solid expertise in financial steering (budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, medium-term planning), and experience in project management;
- At least 5 years of experience in a leadership role managing a management control team of ideally more than 5 members;
- Proven experience in financial process improvement, department reorganization, and change management;
- Fluent in French; knowledge of Dutch is an asset.
