What will I be doing?

As a Contract Supervisor, you will play a key role in ensuring the safe, efficient and compliant delivery of our refuse, recycling, green waste and trade waste collection services.

Reporting to the Assistant Contract Managers and working closely with the wider management team, you will help deliver high-quality services to our customers and local communities while supporting operational performance, safety and customer satisfaction.

You will work on a rota covering shifts between 5:00am and 6:00pm, Monday to Friday. In addition, you will be required to participate in a mandatory 1-in-4 weekend rota, which is paid as overtime. Flexibility will be required to meet the needs of the business.

Key responsibilities
  • Supervising the day-to-day delivery of waste and recycling collection services, ensuring they are carried out safely, efficiently and in accordance with contractual requirements.
  • Monitoring operational performance, completing site and route inspections, and promoting a positive safety culture across the workforce.
  • Managing fleet compliance and maintaining high standards of health, safety, environmental compliance and customer service.
  • Managing operational activities including timesheets, staffing levels, workforce briefings, absence management, incident investigations and disciplinary processes where required.
  • Delivering inductions and training to new employees and supporting the ongoing development of operational teams.
  • Identifying opportunities for continuous improvement to help deliver a reliable, efficient and resilient service for the residents of Doncaster.
What are the requirements?
  • Strong decision-making skills, a proactive approach to problem solving, and a commitment to safe and effective operational practices.
  • Previous supervisory or team leader experience (essential), ideally gained within logistics, waste, recycling, transport, or another fast-paced operational environment.
  • Proven people management skills, with the ability to lead, motivate and support teams, communicate effectively, and confidently deliver inductions and training to new employees.
  • Good IT skills, including experience using Microsoft Office. Knowledge of fleet compliance, transport operations or logistics systems would be advantageous, although full training will be provided on all relevant in-house systems.
  • A full UK driving licence. An HGV licence would be beneficial but is not essential. Candidates without an HGV licence will be expected to attain this qualification, with full training provided by the company.
  • A good knowledge of the Doncaster Borough and surrounding areas would be advantageous.
