Exciting times are ahead at Penspen as we continue to grow our Legal & Corporate Team based in EC1. We're expanding our exceptional Legal team and are now seeking a dynamic and experienced Contract Manager to join them.

Main Purpose of RoleThe Contract Manager is responsible for managing the full lifecycle of contracts across Penspen's European operations, with emphasis on drafting, negotiation, administration, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities- Drafting & Negotiation: Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of contracts, including NDAs, client service agreements, EPC/PMC/FEED contracts, supplier agreements, and subcontracts.
- Serve as first point of contact for all NDA requests: prepare, negotiate, and finalize terms to protect Penspen's interests while enabling timely business engagement.
- Collaborate with commercial, legal, and project teams to ensure contracts are commercially viable, risk-balanced, and compliant with company policy.
- Support bid/proposal processes by advising on contractual risks and crafting negotiation strategies.
- Contract Administration: Manage day to day administration of contracts, ensuring obligations, deliverables, and reporting requirements are met.
- Monitor and enforce contractual commitments such as insurance, bonds, warranties, guarantees and liquidated damages.
- Oversee contract variations, change requests and claims, ensuring effective resolution.
- Risk & Compliance: Identify, assess, and mitigate legal and commercial risks across European jurisdictions.
- Ensure adherence to European compliance frameworks, including data privacy, anti bribery, AML, sanctions and competition law.
- Maintain a fully auditable record of all agreements to support governance and regulatory standards.
- Performance & Reporting: Conduct contract performance analysis, monitoring cost, schedule, HSE and quality metrics against contractual objectives.
- Provide clear and timely contract-related reports to senior management.
- Lead lessons learned reviews to improve contract processes and negotiation practices.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Act as key interface with clients, suppliers, subcontractors and internal teams.
- Provide guidance to project managers and stakeholders on contract interpretation, NDA obligations and risk management.
- Foster collaborative relationships to drive positive project and commercial outcomes.
- Legal & Commercial Team KPIs.
- Internal: Corporate Legal & Commercial, West Regional Leadership team and Project Managers.
- External: Clients and Subcontractors.
- Risk awareness, negotiation skills, decision making, analytical skills, proactive approach, ability to work under pressure.
- Knowledge of technical and commercial disciplines related to oil and gas development projects.
- Considerable knowledge of contract law, contract management, financial management of projects, project controls, risk management principles.
- Experience reviewing, amending and negotiating insurances and bonds during pre qualification, bidding and pre award stage.
- Skills in strategy formulation, negotiation and relationship building.
- Competent in advising on contracts and other legal documents and able to coordinate, gather, analyse and understand complex information.
- Experience in international markets (not essential but preferred).
- Able to build and maintain effective working relationships with clients, partners, subcontractors and company staff.
- Able to discuss and present subject matter in an effective, legible and confident manner.
- Strong organisational skills and keen eye for detail.
- Graduate university degree in a relevant field (e.g. Law).
- At least 6 years' experience in the same role or in the administration and management of contracts.
- Taking reasonable care for your own health and safety and the health and safety of others.
- Working with the company to ensure a high standard of environmental health and safety management by following site EHS procedures. Ensuring compliance with all relevant quality standards/procedures.
