This role will be responsible for managing multiple contracts within the Public Safety & Justice Sector at BT Group. PS&J is a vertical within the Public Sector unit that covers a variety of contracts, with customers including the Home Office, Ministry of Justice, as well as local Police forces and Fire services. This role will manage the finances across these contracts, ensuring accurate P&Ls and balance sheets are maintained and relevant accounting standards are followed.

The role involves a broad stakeholder base, requiring concise and timely interactions to maximize value for BT Group and the customer. Insightful forecasting and reporting are crucial to support profitable growth of high-value Government customers.

This role can be based in Bristol, London, Birmingham, or Manchester, with a hybrid working pattern of three days in the office and two days from home.

What you'll be doing

Contract Accounting Finance Specialist for PS&J contracts - driving profitable change for the short, medium, and long term

  • Ensure financial control of the contract
  • Account for the contract through the contract accountant
  • Provide support and insight on customer profitability, ROI, offers, and discounts
  • Maintain P&L and balance sheet control, manage bad debt and cash flow billing
  • Influence strategic direction and support execution
  • Drive cost transformation initiatives impacting P&L
  • Lead interface for third-party costs and risk assessments where customer-specific
  • Manage debt collection and resolve billing issues, especially in value channels
  • Provide financial planning and analysis to the business
  • Manage financial risks associated with billing platforms and ledgers, such as GS product, B&PS product, and complex managed contracts
  • Make judgment calls on contract recognition of costs and revenues in line with accounting standards
  • Handle complex commercial situations to protect or improve BT's financial position
  • Oversee financial and operational analysis, developing complex business cases
  • Provide in-depth commentary reflecting understanding of the wider operating environment
  • Oversee forecasting, planning, and budgeting, demonstrating understanding of their inter-relationships
  • Offer detailed feedback and insights on financial performance
  • Anticipate business risks and plan appropriate insurance coverage
You'll have the following skills and experience
  • Qualified Accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent)
  • Significant senior stakeholder and business partnering experience in highly matrixed environments
  • Ability to evaluate and negotiate contract terms
  • Strong interpretative skills for financial data to inform decisions
  • Willingness to voice opinions and envision possibilities, delivering against key metrics
  • High analytical capability
  • Knowledge from multiple functional areas and impact anticipation
  • Deep understanding of financial statements and accounting principles
  • Experience in detailed forecasting and budgeting
  • Ability to provide detailed financial performance feedback
