Job Description
Main duties of the job 
- Work within the multi disciplinary team providing and further developing care for patients of the Urology service.
- Play an active role in the general workload of the Care Group with a significant commitment to teaching and training of junior staff.
- Provide first class clinical service across all Kings Urology sites including Denmark Hill, Princess Royal University Hospital and Beckenham Beacon, and undertake on call duties as specified.
- Share responsibility for 24/7 cover for the unit on a rota basis and cover colleagues' periods of annual leave and short term sickness.
- Provide clinical supervision of junior medical and dental practitioners.
- Conduct teaching, examination and accreditation duties, and contribute to CPD and clinical governance initiatives.
- Attend outpatient clinic commitments in peripheral hospitals as agreed with the Care Group management.
- Contribute to the Care Group's research interests, audit programmes, morbidity and mortality and clinical governance programmes.
- Take an active role in the formulation, implementation and monitoring of the Care Group's Business Plan.
- Execute all activities within the contracted level of service and operating plan for the service(s).
- Exercise professional leadership for all staff working in the specialty, fostering professional education and training.
- Assist in ensuring productivity and job satisfaction of staff, including involvement in appraisals.
- Undertake Care Group management duties as agreed with the Care Group/Departmental Manager/Clinical Director.
- Comply with all Trust infection prevention and control policies.
- Prepare for and undertake protective interventions consistently with evidence based practice and patient safety.
- Support consultant led 7 day services and contribute equally with other consultant colleagues in future developments.
- Full MRCP
- Other higher degree or diploma (e.g., MD)
- Full Registration with GMC
- Name on GMC Specialist Register on date of taking up appointment
- Within 6 months of CCT or in final stages of portfolio pathway application, or fully registered on GMC Specialist Register.
- Wide experience in all aspects of urology culminating in award of Certificate of Completion of Training by GMC or award of Certificate of Eligibility for Specialty Registration (CESR) by GMC.
- Experience in day to day organisation of urology services in a busy Teaching Hospital.
- Familiarity with information technology and general computer skills.
- Understanding of UK National Health Service structure and recent initiatives.
- Demonstrated leadership capability within multi disciplinary teams.
- Thorough understanding of principles of medical audit.
- Experience in undertaking and completing audit projects.
- Experience of clinical research and relevant research in urology.
- Publication of review articles or case reports.
- Experience of undergraduate and post graduate teaching and exam preparation.
- Teaching skills qualification or course.
