Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity to join an established Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Team, based in Reading, Berkshire, following the retirement of the substantive post holder.

The CRHTT operate on a 24/7 basis and the post holder will be part of the MDT that supports patients in crisis requiring home treatment as an alternative to admission. The post holder will work Monday - Friday, 09:00 - 17:00, undertaking assessments, MDT meetings and reviews of patients open to the team and be supported by a range of clinicians which includes psychology and non-medical prescribers. The CRHTT are gatekeepers for all admissions to Prospect Park, where the role is based, which is a purpose-bult mental health hospital serving the people of Berkshire.

The service also operates a Police Street Triage Service, has access to Crisis Beds and Crisis Caf and is working on national projects including the roll-out of NHS 111 Option 2 and Mental Health Response Vehicles to support the Right Care, Right Person ambition.

The Consultant Psychiatrist for the Reading HTT will work closely with their colleagues in the 5 other HTTs based across the county and the county Hubs, which operate the 24/7 service.

Main duties of the job

Work as part of the MDT in providing senior support in the management of patients

Consider the need for prescribing and medication reviews

Undertake diagnostic assessments

Provide support to the education supervision to members of the MDT

Participate in clinical audit and other local assurance processes

Leads and manages in a way that supports the development of a culture of continuous improvement and learning

Empower the team to resolve local issues on a daily basis

Job responsibilities

The must haves for this role:

1. MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.

2. Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.

3. Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months.

4. Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.

Person Specification Clinical Skills, Knowledge & Experience
  • Excellent knowledge in specialty
  • Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge.
  • Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service
