Consultant Psychiatrist in Adult Liaison

Would you like to join Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust to provide mental health and community care? This full time Consultant in Liaison Psychiatry role focuses on General Adult patients ( years) at Princess Alexandra Hospital. The post is supported by an Old Age Psychiatry consultant. You must be on the Specialist Register for General Adult Psychiatry.

The successful candidate will act as Responsible Clinician for patients detained under the Mental Health Act and be accountable for assessment and management of adult patients admitted to Princess Alexandra Hospital. The role also envisages support across all ages if required.

Main duties of the job
  • Provide clinical leadership and be Responsible Clinician for General Adult patients referred to the Liaison team.
  • Review new patients in a timely manner and oversee the clinical management of patients on the wards.
  • Be available for timely MDT meetings and facilitate discharge planning.
  • Carry out duties as Responsible Clinician, including Mental Health Act assessments, preparation of tribunal reports and giving oral evidence at manager hearings and mental health review tribunals (if required).
  • Actively support staff development and drive continual service improvement.
  • Provide clinical supervision to trainees.
  • Participate in clinical audit to ensure continuous service improvement.
  • Cover holidays and absences of the full time Old Age Liaison consultant.
Qualifications
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • Registration with the General Medical Council and on the Specialist Register.
  • Meets Royal College of Psychiatrists criteria for appointment to the post of Consultant.
  • Section 12 Approval and Approved Clinician Status.
  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
  • Postgraduate degree in psychiatry (MRC Psych or equivalent).
  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
  • Approved Clinician status and in good standing with the GMC.
Clinical skills, knowledge and experience
  • Manage clinical complexity and uncertainty.
  • Make decisions based on evidence and experience, including collaboration.
  • Meet duties under MHA and MCA.
  • Provide a wide range of specialist and sub specialist experience relevant to the NHS.
  • Utilise a quality improvement approach to identify, develop and test change ideas using systematic QI methodology.
