Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity to join the 'Outstanding' team at The Chimneys Clinic as a Consultant Psychiatrist. Main duties of the job

As a Consultant Psychiatrist, you will take clinical responsibility for patients, including multidisciplinary ward rounds, risk reviews, strategic reviews, and the development of a therapeutic milieu. You will also fulfil the role of Responsible Clinician to patients detained under the Mental Health Act. You will offer a psychiatric perspective to the multidisciplinary team in relation to the assessment, formulation, and treatment of patients, and contribute to management and clinical governance meetings. Additionally, you will contribute to in-house training programmes and offer supervision to other members of the multi-disciplinary team.

Job responsibilities

Join the 'Outstanding' team at The Chimneys Clinic, as rated by the CQC. As a Consultant Psychiatrist, you will be part of a passionate team committed to delivering high-quality care. You will support a supportive learning environment for staff members and have the backing of a Medical Secretary and Specialist Doctor.

You will work closely with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure clients receive holistic, person-centric care based on the recovery model. You will also provide high-quality clinical care and have opportunities for career development with access to CPD and a peer group of high-calibre consultants.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Taking clinical responsibility for patients, including multidisciplinary ward rounds, risk reviews, strategic reviews, and developing a therapeutic milieu.
  • Fulfilling the role of Responsible Clinician under the Mental Health Act (1983).
  • Providing psychiatric assessments and formulations to the multidisciplinary team.
  • Participating in management and clinical governance meetings, contributing to service strategy development.
  • Contributing to in-house training and supervising junior medical staff.
  • Maintaining CPD and re-validation requirements as per the Royal College of Psychiatrists or relevant bodies.
  • Being part of an on-call Responsible Clinician rota.

Candidate requirements:

  • Medical qualification with MRC Psych or equivalent.
  • Innovative with decision-making capabilities.
  • Knowledge of current developments in psychiatry and mental health.
  • Experience in change management, legislation, and contractual issues in mental health.
  • Previous Consultant management experience.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Medical qualification with MRC Psych or equivalent, with substantial knowledge of change management, legislation, and contemporary mental health issues. Previous management experience as a Consultant is required.

This role is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975, requiring a DBS check for any criminal convictions.
