Braeburn House is a 28-bed male HDU established in 2016, located in a site that has undergone significant refurbishment. It operates as a partnership between GMMH and Elysium, with nursing staff, ward managers, HCAs, and domestics employed by Elysium, and a senior clinical team employed by GMMH.
The GMMH multidisciplinary team includes 1.5 WTE Consultant psychiatrist sessions, a full-time Senior Nurse for mental health, a Senior Nurse for physical health, a Psychologist, and a Psychology Assistant. There is also a trainee Advanced Nurse Practitioner and a junior doctor attached to the unit. Two consultant psychiatrists provide daytime medical cover, with arrangements for cover during leave. Night coverage is provided by the Hospital at Night team and supported by the Salford Senior trainee and Consultant rota. Patients are registered with GPs who provide cover.
Main duties of the jobThe post holder will participate in the weekly rehab referral meetings and assess new, potentially complex patients with physical health issues, but will not be involved in follow-up. They will provide medical leadership to the multidisciplinary team, attend ward rounds, and serve as Responsible Clinician, handling responsibilities related to The Mental Health Act, including section 12 work, tribunals, and section renewal meetings. This role is shared with a 0.5 WTE Consultant, with responsibility for approximately 20 inpatients and cross-cover duties. The post involves leading CPA meetings, care planning, risk assessments, capacity assessments, and involvement in weekly rehab referral meetings.

Person specification Qualifications- MB BS or equivalent
- MRCPsych or equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists
- GMC registration with a license to practice
- On the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of registration
- Approved clinician status or able to achieve within 3 months
- Approved under S12 or able to achieve within 3 months
- In good standing with GMC regarding warnings or conditions
