Job Description
Old Age Psychiatry Consultant - Inverclyde

We are seeking enthusiastic candidates for this Inverclyde Consultant post in Old Age Psychiatry (10 PAs) to deliver comprehensive psychiatric care for patients over 65 registered at GP practices in Wemyss Bay, Greenock and Gourock covering the Western portion of Inverclyde HSCP (population 8,500). This full time post includes both outpatient and inpatient responsibilities, with clinical leadership expected across multidisciplinary teams in the community and hospital settings.

Shift Pattern

Monday Friday 9am 5pm, plus on call (1 in 25 non resident) as part of a wider regional rota.

Key Responsibilities

Inpatient care at Ward 4, Larkfield Unit, Inverclyde Royal Hospital. Work in the integrated Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) with embedded social workers, Mental Health Officers, and allied health professionals. Collaborate with other local and regional psychiatrists, participate in regular case discussions, senior clinician and management meetings, and clinical leadership across multidisciplinary teams.

Engage in teaching medical students from Glasgow University. Provide teaching, training for resident doctors, and support for higher trainer status if desired.

Qualifications

Applicants must hold full GMC registration, a license to practice, and be eligible for the Specialist Register (CCT or CESR). Experience or eligibility to act as RMO and AMP under the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003 is required. Recognition of trainer status is expected. The post is offered on a 10 PA basis (8 DCC, 2 non DCC). Flexible and less than full time options are considered.

The post is fully supported by a multidisciplinary team, including nursing, psychology, OT, physiotherapy, and administrative staff. Clinics are primarily based at the Larkfield Unit, with strong links to the integrated community team at Crown House, Greenock.
