Main duties of the jobThe Living Well psychiatrist will offer expert advice to GPs for patients not currently open to secondary care mental health services. The service will advise about medication, signposting to other services and specialties, as well as clinical management and diagnostic advice. The service will be provided on a daily basis, Monday to Friday.
The post holder will work with the Living Well in Oldham service, working across Oldham as a consultant psychiatrist, providing clinical leadership to the multidisciplinary team.
As this is a new and innovative service it is anticipated that some work would be managerial and consist of developing and expanding the team, delivering training to new team members, and championing the service with other stakeholders.
To provide high quality Mental Health Care for adults with severe and enduring mental health problems within the community.
To work closely with other teams and Consultants to ensure coherent and high quality mental health care for adults with severe and enduring mental health problems within the Oldham area.
To work with the other Consultants to support the development of the service, and to attend local and divisional service development meetings.
Working for our organisationThe post holder will be based at the Cherrywood Outpatient Clinic, Royal Oldham Hospital. Oldham operates an Inpatient Outpatient model (New Ways of Working) and is staffed by 6 full time Consultants in Adult Psychiatry. Each Community Consultant is allocated a Junior Doctor (NW Deanery training schemes) to work with them with support from an advanced practitioner and sessional input from a speciality doctor. The EIT is covered by a part time consultant.
Detailed job description and main responsibilitiesApplicants must be on the GMC's Specialist Register or eligible for inclusion or be within six months of the anticipated award of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in General Adult Psychiatry at the time of interview for the post.
Low frequency on call (1 in 31) with full second tier on call and 1 day off after your on call.

Person specification Qualifications- MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
- Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management
- MRCPsych OR MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists
- Additional clinical qualifications
- Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment
- Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months
- Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
- Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment
- In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice
- Excellent knowledge in specialty
- Excellent clinical skills using bio psycho social perspective and wide medical knowledge
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
- Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty
- Makes decisions based on evidence and experience including the contribution of others
- Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA
- Wide range of specialist and sub specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service
- Able to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and training
- Participated in continuous professional development
- Participated in research or service evaluation
- Able to use and appraise clinical evidence
- Has actively participated in clinical audit
- Able to plan and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training relevant to this post
