St John's Hospital, HSE Midwest, is inviting applicants to apply for a permanent consultant geriatrician and GIM post in the Department of Medicine, St John's Hospital to deliver high quality care for older patients.

Applicants will be expected to have suitable experience in Geriatric Medicine and General Internal Medicine (GIM) and to have specialist registration in Geriatrics & GIM with the Irish Medical Council. On call is 1 in 6. There is also a commitment to teaching and educationally supervising medical students and NCHDs.

This role will be predominantly focused on delivering an inpatient & outpatient services to older adults presenting with frailty in line with the National Clinical Programme for Older People and Integrated Care Programme for Older People guidance. The role will also include participating in rostered consultant supervision to on-site medical Assessment Unit which sees a large number of older patients requiring comprehensive assessment. Clinical supervision and teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level will also be an important aspect of this role. The appointee will also work closely and in partnership with Acute Medicine colleagues as well as the wider multidisciplinary team.

Section 18C. (3)(b) of the Official Languages (Amendment) Act 2021, provides that the National Plan for Irish Language Public Services shall include the objective: "that, by 31 December 2030, at least 20 per cent of persons recruited to public bodies shall be competent in the Irish language."

Staff may be requested to undertake Irish language training, as required, to support the provision of patient-centred services and compliance with the organisation's Irish language commitments.
