Applicants are invited to apply for the Consultant General Paediatrician position at the PRUH site, part of King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, London. This substantive replacement post involves contributing to the GP joint paediatric clinics and MDT (BCHIP). We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join our friendly and innovative team delivering high quality care for children and young people within the Child Health services.
There is a commitment to routine job planned work on evenings and weekends as part of the total job planned PAs, with an overnight on call commitment.
You must be fully registered with the GMC, hold a Licence to Practice and be on the Specialist Register, or be within six months of attaining your CCT or equivalent to be eligible for interview.
The post holder will have regular contact with vulnerable adults and/or children (0 18 years). As such, this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and requires a Disclosure and Barring Service check for any previous convictions.

- Undertaking all work in accordance with the Trust's procedures and operating policies.

- Maintaining the confidence of business plans and development strategies for the specialty, the Care Group or the Trust.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Provide high quality care with other general and neonatal paediatricians on the PRUH site.
- Share responsibility for 24/7 cover on a rota basis ( Consultant of the Week and General Paediatric out of hours cover; 1 in 8 pattern) and general paediatric out patient clinics.
- Lead the GP outreach clinic programme (BCHIP).
- Provide clinical supervision of junior medical/dental practitioners.
- Carry out teaching, examination and accreditation duties and contribute to CPD and clinical governance initiatives.
- Provide a high quality care service to patients, covering all aspects of treatment and management duties for the Care Group.
- Contribute to the Care Group's research interests in line with the Trust's R&D framework.
- Contribute to audit programmes, Morbidity and Mortality, Clinical Governance programmes and Learning from Deaths.
- Actively develop and monitor the Care Group's Business Plan, including discussions on service plans and developments with internal and external agencies.
- Conduct all activities within the contracted level of service and operating plan.
- Exercise professional leadership for all staff in the specialty, fostering professional education and training.
- Work with clinical and other professional colleagues to enhance staff productivity and satisfaction.
- Undertake management duties for the Care Group/Departmental Manager/Clinical Director as agreed.
- Adhere to all trust infection prevention and control policies, including hand hygiene and environmental hygiene.
- Prepare for and undertake protective interventions consistent with evidence based practice and patient safety.
- Commit to consultant led 7 day services, contributing equally with other consultant colleagues if required by future developments.
- You have a general duty of care for the health, safety and well being of yourself, colleagues, visitors and patients.
- You must observe the Trust's rules, policies, procedures and professional obligations, including statutory and core training requirements.
- You must maintain strict confidentiality of patient and staff information.
- You are responsible, with management support, for your own personal development and for actively supporting colleague development.
- You are required to help maintain infection control and hygiene standards, as outlined in the National Code of Practice on Infection Control and local policies.

- MBBS or equivalent
- MRCPCH or equivalent
- APLSE/EPLS provider status, up to date.
- Child Protection training / Safeguarding training (minimum level 3)
- Other higher degree or diploma (e.g., MD)
- Full Registration with GMC
- Name on GMC Specialist Register on date of taking up appointment
- Wide experience in all aspects of paediatrics, culminating in award of CCT or equivalent.
- Specialist training in management and leadership.
- Experience working independently at consultant level in general paediatrics.
- Experience in day to day organisation of paediatric haematology services in a busy teaching hospital.
- Familiarity with information technology and general computer skills.
- Knowledge of the current structure of the UK National Health Service.
- Able to demonstrate leadership capability within multi disciplinary teams.
- Management course and/or qualification.
- Understanding of principles of medical audit.
- Completed audit projects.
- Audit publications.
- Understanding principles and applications of clinical research.
- Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems.
- Experience conducting or supporting clinical research.
- Publication of relevant reviews or case reports.
- Experience teaching undergraduates, junior doctors and allied health professionals.
- Ability to teach clinical skills.
- Teaching skills course/qualification.
- Experience supervising junior doctors (all grades) with formal training in clinical teaching.
