Consultant Old Age Psychiatrist - Maples (Inpatient) 
Location: Cavell Centre, Peterborough. Salary: £113,565 - £150,569 per annum. Role: Permanent, full time (10 sessions per week), Consultant Grade.
Job OverviewThe successful candidate will oversee psychiatric care for a 22 bed ward of older adults, with separate units for dementia and functional illness. The role includes clinical leadership, teaching, research, and discharge planning within a multidisciplinary team.
Main Duties- Deliver comprehensive psychiatric care for older adults on the Maples Unit.
- Provide clinical leadership to the MDT, including OT, OTAs, psychology, physiotherapy, SALT, and junior doctors.
- Develop and implement evidence based treatment plans for complex psychiatric and psychological comorbidities.
- Maintain accurate clinical records and support data collection for service development.
- Offer cross cover for consultant colleagues during annual and staff leave to ensure continuous service.
- Contribute to administrative duties such as setting performance targets, participating in audit, and managing patient information systems.
- Supervise psychiatry trainees and specialty doctors, managing training and oversight.
- Engage in teaching activities for undergraduate and postgraduate medical students and wider staff.
- Support research initiatives, potentially leading clinical trials related to dementia and late life mental health.
- Participate in the CPFT North consultant psychiatry on call rota (Category A).
- Full GMC registration and licence to practice.
- MBBS or equivalent.
- MRCPsych or equivalent.
- MD or PhD (preferred).
- AC/S12 status or eligibility for training.
- Approved Clinician Status or eligibility to attend training.
- Specialty Registration in psychiatry.
- CCT in psychiatry, or within 6 months of attaining Higher Training CCT at the time of interview.
- Experience and competencies recognised by the GMC.
- Proven experience of working with older adults.
- Experience of multidisciplinary collaboration.
- Experience of teaching and supervising doctors in training.
- Publications in psychiatry.
- Experience of crisis and home treatment work.
- Knowledge of mental health policy and legislation.
- Decision making and problem solving skills.
- Ability to take clinical lead.
- Represent department at trust wide meetings.
- Build relationships with other professionals.
- Willingness to travel if required.
- Approachable and flexible.
- Reliable.
- Strong understanding of NHS mental health services context.
- Experience developing services within changing environments and limited budgets.
