Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist

This is a great opportunity to take up a Consultant position in Obstetrics and Gynaecology based at the Royal Cornwall Hospital NHS Trust. The appointee will join the existing team of Obstetricians, currently we have 10 dedicated gynaecologists, 4 dedicated Obstetricians and a further 6 Consultants doing both Obstetrics and Gynaecology. We are looking for someone who is passionate and enthusiastic about obstetrics and gynaecology care to join and enhance our existing team. There is flexibility within this team to take on a lead role in a specialist area and to become an integral part of governance and education. An interest in urogynaecology, Complex Early pregnancy and non-elective Gynaecology would be an ideal compliment. Other specialist interests would be considered

Main duties of the job

The new post holder will be involved in both the acute service, providing obstetric and gynaecology emergency services and be part of our on call rota as well as delivering routine obstetric, gynaecology and specialist clinics and services.

We have recently had approval to commence designing a new Women's and Children's Hospital with construction to be completed in 2031, this is an exciting time to join our team to help inform our new hospital design.

Job responsibilities

Expectations of the postholder:

Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of Obstetrics patients.

To share with colleagues responsibility for the day to day management of the Obstetric department.

To ensure patient safety and deliver clinical excellence in Obstetric services.

Teaching and training of junior staff and medical students where applicable.

To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing medical education (CME).

To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and Audit.

To attend meetings as appropriate.

Fulfil duties of weekly timetable including any out-of-hours responsibilities.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Gull GMC Registration with a licence to practice
  • MRCOG or appropriate specialist registration
  • Relevant CCT or equivalent
  • Entry onto the GMC specialist register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of AAC
  • Higher degree or additional qualification
Clinical Experience
  • Clinical training and experience in general obstetrics and gynaecology equivalent to that required for a UK CCST
  • Statement regarding appropriate training and experience including that relating to a specialist interest
  • Experience of leadership skills, particularly in obstetrics
  • Able to demonstrate excellence in general operative skills
  • Advanced labour ward lead ATSM
  • Additional experience /ATSM/SITM in Uro-Gynaecology
