Main duties of the jobWe are looking for a Consultant Neurologist with an interest in epilepsy to join our department at UHS. You will be part of the WNC regional stroke on call rota, providing excellent hyper acute stroke care as part of the mechanical thrombectomy service. Managing inpatients and outpatients with neurological diseases and contributing to the regional stroke MT service.
Working as part of the regional epilepsy service to deliver tertiary epilepsy services including the work up for epilepsy surgery. Taking part in the Southampton General Hospital ward liaison service on a 1:5 weekly rota, and regional and departmental CPD and governance activities. Contributing to research and education.

Job responsibilitiesAn exciting opportunity has arisen to join a dynamic and supportive regional neurology service in the south of England based at the Wessex Neurological Centre (WNC) in Southampton. We are looking for a consultant neurologist with a special interest in epilepsy to join our regional team in a role that is based purely at Southampton General hospital.
You will be a key part of the regional epilepsy service at WNC working alongside epilepsy nurse specialists, neurosurgeons, neurophysiologists and a neuropsychiatrist to deliver and develop the comprehensive regional epilepsy service including work up for epilepsy surgery. You will also be part of the Neurology liaison service at Southampton General Hospital.

The successful candidate will be employed under the terms and conditions of service for Consultants (England) 2003.

Person Specification Aptitudes and skills- Evidence and ability to work effectively in multi professional teams
- Understanding of equality and diversity and how this affects patients, visitors and staff
- Evidence and ability to communicate and liaise effectively with patients and colleagues (verbal and written communication skills in English)
- Demonstrate good organisational skills including ability to prioritise effectively and meet deadlines
- Demonstrate the ability to be calm, compassionate, and able to respond efficiently to various circumstances, which may change rapidly
- Evidence of participation in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
- Wide clinical experience of general management principles in adult neurology
- Experience with hyperacute stroke management including thrombolysis and MT
- Understand principles and participated in audit activity
- Understand the principles of Clinical Governance and demonstrate experience of evidence based practice
- Able to evaluate own clinical practice
- Leadership skills
- Ability to travel independently between sites
- Able to fulfil job description (including evening/weekend and overnight on call work)

- Computer literate - confident in using MS Office, Email and Internet
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- GMC registration with a licence to practise
- Appropriate knowledge base, and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems
- MRCP or equivalent
- CCT in Neurology (or expected within 6 months of interview)
- Post CCT Fellowship in Epilepsy
- Experience in Epilepsy at Consultant level
