Job OverviewSeeking a Consultant in Respiratory Medicine to join UHMBT's growing respiratory team. The role offers a full time post with potential for flexible working arrangements. The team delivers care across Morecambe Bay, addressing respiratory illnesses in a mix of urban and rural settings.
As a consultant, you will provide senior respiratory medicine support to the acute sites at Lancaster Royal Infirmary and Furness General Hospital, and to community respiratory teams throughout the bay. You will focus on a specialty sub area within the hospital and community settings to ensure continuity of care and a system wide approach via the Morecambe Bay Respiratory Network.
Main Duties of the JobThe Respiratory Team seeks an enthusiastic, committed consultant to join a multidisciplinary group including trainees, advanced nurse practitioners, respiratory nurse specialists, lung cancer nurse specialists, pleural disease nurse practitioner and specialist respiratory physiologists.
Job plan: 10 posts per annum (flexible). Successful applicants may negotiate on call commitments and could apply for a part time post. Current consultants value healthy work life balance and teamwork.
Working for Our OrganisationOur services are based in Furness General Hospital (Barrow), Royal Lancaster Infirmary, and Westmorland General Hospital (Kendal). We also provide community health care at Millom Hospital, GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
All sites offer emergency, critical, coronary care, urgent treatment and planned care services. Community care is delivered in homes, community centres, clinics and the main hospitals to support independent living and improve health.

Application for this substantive post will only be accepted if you hold full GMC registration with a licence to practice and are on the Specialist Register, or anticipate receiving CCT/Professional Portfolio (CESR) within six months of interview.
Person Specification Education and Qualifications- MBBS and MRCP (or equivalent)
- Full GMC registration with a licence to practice
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT (or CESR) within 6 months of interview
- Full GMC and European Community Rights
- Appropriate higher general medicine qualification
- Depth and breadth of experience in general internal medicine and respiratory medicine following approved STR training or equivalent
- Experience in a special interest that complements those within the department
- Experience at locum consultant level
- Willingness and ability to fulfil key elements of the job description
- Evidence of teaching medical students, trainee doctors and the multidisciplinary team
- Capacity to manage workload, ward rounds and prioritise time effectively
- Understanding of clinical governance responsibilities
- Ability to develop effective working relationships across all staff levels
- Leadership and service development skills
- Knowledge of multidisciplinary audit principles and direct involvement
- Knowledge of research principles and evidence of involvement
