This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic rehabilitation medicine team, working with patients with complex neurological conditions requiring highly specialised holistic rehabilitation care. The role balances direct clinical practice with multidisciplinary collaboration and opportunities to provide specialist management in areas such as spasticity management, comprehensive rehabilitation assessments, and individualized rehabilitation plans. You will engage with subspecialist MDTs including Neuro-Urology and Neuropsychiatry. You will work with experienced rehabilitation medicine consultants, allied health professionals, and specialist nurses, with scope to expand knowledge, influence service development, and shape patient-centred care in a supportive clinical setting.
Main duties of the job- Lead consultant on the Ontario Ward, responsible for 16 level 2b patients, weekly ward rounds, and reviewing new admissions within 24 hours.
- Participate in daily handovers and contribute to meetings including waiting list and referral reviews, complex discharge planning, and multidisciplinary discussions with Neuro-Urology, Neuropsychiatry, Neurosurgery, and Neurology colleagues.
- Facilitate or delegate complex family meetings to educate patients and families about their condition.
- Contribute to hospital governance, service development, and Clinical Operations Meetings to shape service delivery and quality improvement.
- Provide strong clinical leadership and clear communication with the wider multi-professional team.
- Support service innovation and improvement with opportunities for professional development.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities- Provide high-quality care to patients, including all treatment and management duties for the Care Group.
- Share responsibility for 24/7 unit cover on a rota, including covering colleagues on annual leave or sickness as per contract.
- Provide clinical supervision of junior medical/dental practitioners with colleagues.
- Carry out teaching, examinations, accreditation duties, and contribute to CPD and clinical governance initiatives.
- Attend outpatient clinic commitments in peripheral hospitals as agreed with the Care Group management.
- Contribute to the Care Group's research, audits, Morbidity and Mortality, Clinical Governance, and Learning from Deaths programs.
- Contribute to the Care Group's Business Plan and service developments with internal and external partners.
- Operate within the contracted level of service and maintaining clinical governance standards.
- Provide professional leadership for all staff in the specialty and support post-qualification education and training.
- Work with colleagues to maintain staff productivity and job satisfaction; participate in the appraisal process as appropriate.
- Undertake Care Group management duties as agreed with leadership.
- Comply with infection prevention and control policies, including hand hygiene and environmental hygiene.
- Prepare for protective interventions in line with evidence-based practice and patient safety.
- Be prepared to contribute to consultant-led 7-day services as future developments arise.

Person specification Qualifications & Higher Education- Full MRCP
- Other higher degree or diploma (e.g., MD)
- Full GMC Registration
- GMC Specialist Register on appointment date or within six months of interview
- Wide experience in rehabilitation medicine, including neuro-rehabilitation and spasticity management (e.g., botulinum toxin)
- Experience organising rehabilitation services in a busy teaching hospital
- Familiarity with information technology and NHS structure
- Leadership capability within multidisciplinary teams
- Management course or qualification
- Understanding of medical audit; completed audit projects; audit publications
- Experience of clinical research and publishing relevant articles or case reports
- Experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and exam preparation
- Teaching skills course/qualification
