Barts Cancer Centre - Consultant Medical Oncology- Gastro-Intestinal Cancer, Cancer of Unknown Primary and Acute Oncology Vacancy
We are seeking to appoint a substantive Consultant Medical Oncologist to join our existing site-specialist multidisciplinary teams in the field of GI Cancers at St Bartholomew's Hospital in the Barts Cancer Centre. The post offers an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and growing consultant team, and to develop new models of care/services that support the people in north east London and beyond. It will be based at St Bartholomew's Hospital and at the Royal London Hospital. The post holder will participate in immune oncology delivery and clinical trials and will be required to demonstrate professional excellence and the ability to deliver effective care. This is a full time 10 PA position; an alternative timetable requires prior request to the Divisional Director. Full registration with the General Medical Council with a licence to practice is required.
Main duties of the job- Provide a comprehensive, efficient and high quality evidence based Medical Oncology service, including all administrative duties associated with patient care.
- Lead, develop and organise services in line with Trust / Divisional business plans and participate fully in the management of the Barts Cancer Centre.
- Maintain liaison and communication with the Clinical Academic Group Director, General Manager and Deputy Director of Operations of BCC.
- Develop own interests and specialties within oncology, and participate actively in research programmes.
- Hold corporate and individual responsibility for the professional management of doctors in training.
- Adhere to clinical and quality standards set by the NHS Cancer Plan, Improving Outcomes reports and NICE guidance.
- Liaise effectively and promptly with General Practitioners, community services and all healthcare agencies.
- Promote team and multidisciplinary work.
- Participate in the consultant on call rota.

Job responsibilities- Provide comprehensive, efficient, and high quality care throughout the treatment and management pathway of patients with cancer.
- Play an active role in supporting the post take review of patients admitted to Barts Hospital via the Clinical Assessment Unit.
- Give advice and guidance on acute oncological care planning, and facilitate effective communication pathways and record keeping for all involved in patient care.
- Provide day to day care and supervision of oncology inpatients as part of the multi disciplinary team.
- Provide a referral service for inpatients under other clinical departments in the Trust diagnosed with or developing cancer related complications.
- Provide an emergency referral service for inpatients at other London Cancer hospital sites with cancer related complications during their stay.
- Provide clinical care and supervision of patients in the Oncology department.
