Consultant in General Adult Psychiatry Community CMHT

Job ref 311-M201-25-Q. Full time, 37.5 hours per week. Salary £113,565 - £150,569 PA, pro rata. Closing 02/08/2026.

Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to make a substantive whole time appointment to this newly established post within Bury Mental Health Services. The post will cover a sector of the Bury area and will work with other sector consultants (East, West and South sector community outpatients). The Bury general adult psychiatry service provides care for people aged 16 to 64 in community clinics, patients' homes and other clinical settings.

Job Responsibilities
  • Deliver assessment and management of adult psychiatric patients in community settings.
  • Provide clinical care in community clinics, patient homes or other suitable settings.
  • Contribute to the teaching of medical and nursing staff.
  • Collaborate with other sector consultants and services.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Medical degree MBChB or equivalent.
  • Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) in good standing.
  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of appointment.
  • Approved Clinician (AC) status or ability to achieve within three months of appointment.
  • Section 12 approval under the Mental Health Act 1983 or ability to achieve within three months of appointment.
  • Excellent knowledge of adult psychiatry and experience with a range of conditions and complex psychological problems.
  • Experience with detention under the MHA 1983 and preparation of reports for Mental Health Review Tribunals.
  • Evidence of teaching, training and audit activity and commitment to CPD with the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
  • Capability to participate in on call rotas.
  • Previous experience as an educational supervisor of basic trainees or specialist registrars.
Other Requirements
  • Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions) Order 1975 compliance - a DBS check will be required.
  • Adoption of UK professional registration as required by the employer.
