Job Description
Main duties of the job

Provide the highest quality of clinical care to patients and carers.

  • Work in partnership at both strategic and operational levels with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure that people who use services, carers and advocates are treated with respect and dignity.
  • Deliver clinical leadership, actively develop the team, and give expert advice to hospital and community specialists, managers, and directors on what is needed to deliver excellent care and to develop future strategic directions.
  • Maintain continuing responsibility for the care of patients and for the proper functioning of the department.
  • Liaise with general practitioners, hospital and community specialists, and other agencies wherever relevant.
  • Engage in the development of the Job Plan and agree a workable timetable within the current framework.

Qualifications
  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • MRC Psych or equivalent.
  • Fully registered with GMC with a licence to practice at the time of appointment.
  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register or equivalent within 6 months of the interview date.
  • Approved clinician status or ability to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
  • Approved under S12 or ability to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
  • Qualifying or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
  • Additional clinical qualifications.
  • In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice.
Experience
  • Clinical expertise in specialty/sub specialty.
  • Excellence in clinical skills using a bio psycho social perspective and wide medical knowledge.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty.
  • Decision making based on evidence and experience, including contribution from others.
  • Ability to meet duties under MHA and MCA.
  • Ability to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and training.
  • Ability to work in and lead a team.
  • Demonstrated commitment to shared leadership and collaborative working.
  • Participation in continuous professional development.
  • Participation in research or service evaluation.
  • Ability to use and appraise clinical evidence.
  • Active participation in clinical audit and quality improvement programmes.
  • Personal skills and attributes: influencing, leadership, communication, motivation.
  • Ability to undertake on call duties and work in the community, including travel to LPT sites.
  • Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience within NHS or comparable service.
  • Evidence of achievement in education, research, audit and service improvement.
  • Experience leading clinical audits resulting in service change or improved patient outcomes.
