Role description: The role is part of an integrated and collegiate South West Cleft Service and Child Dental Health within the Orthodontic team. No on call commitment. The appointee will provide clinical leadership, dental advice and treatment within Orthodontics, particularly in cleft lip and palate, hypodontia and jaw deformity management.

- Personal treatment
- Clinical postgraduate teaching
- Multidisciplinary planning and review clinics
The role complements existing NHS Consultant Orthodontists by bringing expertise in cleft lip and palate management, hypodontia, jaw deformity, dental trauma and ectopic teeth. It requires collaboration with colleagues from other specialities in the Multidisciplinary Teams.
Additional responsibilities include developing and contributing to continuing education, professional development, audit and research within the Directorate and Trust. Postgraduate teaching and supervision of NHS junior trainees are encouraged.
The position requires considerable flexibility and a broad range of skills to meet the challenges of this post.

Qualifications & Training- Fully registered with GDC.
- Certification of completion of specialist training (CCT) or equivalent, or Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) (or be within 6 months of gaining CCT at interview).
- Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (or equivalent).
- On the GDC Specialist Register for Orthodontics.
- Higher academic qualification (MD, PhD or equivalent).
- Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in Orthodontics.
- Ability to deliver the service independently.
- Special interest and expertise in management of cleft lip and palate.
- Up to date knowledge and experience of relevant specialty.
- Knowledge of NHS priorities for specialty.
- Broad range of IT skills.
- Understanding of clinical governance and related responsibilities.
- Knowledge of clinical audit principles and evidence of participation.
- Participation in continuing professional development (CPD) scheme and evidence of participation.
- Positive approach to evidence based practice.
- Evidence of involvement in research.
- Knowledge of research principles.
- Peer reviewed research publications.
- Ability to increase the academic profile of the department.
- Experience of teaching medical students.
- Experience of supervising trainees.
- Knowledge of teaching to a multidisciplinary team.
- Formal teaching qualification.
