Due to a resignation of the previous postholder, we are currently advertising for a Substantive Consultant Anaesthetist. This post is for 10 programmed activities. The post holder will be expected to participate in a 1:10 on-call rota. A breakdown of the draft job plan for the post is included in the information pack.
The post offers the opportunity to work in a small, ACSA accredited department at Airedale Hospital.
Main duties of the jobThe successful applicant will be expected to work as part of a team of Consultants and will be required to contribute to the ongoing development of the Department of Anaesthesia at Airedale Hospital.
Applicants must- be on the Specialist Register, or within six months of being admitted to the Register for trainees if currently in a training programme within the UK. (If you are a trainee, currently on a UK training programme, and are not yet on the specialist register, please provide details of your expected CCT date on your application form) Or
- be an associate specialist within the UK and able to demonstrate ability to work at consultant level via CV and interview.
The initial job plan is for 10 PA's with opportunity for additional 1 PA induction and leadership development time for 1st year. Time is allocated within job plans for any additional responsibilities in addition to SPA time. Professional leave is available for additional responsibilities in addition to study leave.
Person Specification Qualifications- MBBS or equivalent
- GMC Registration
- FRCA or FFARCS or equivalent
- Higher academic qualifications ATLS / ALS / APLS / PALS
- Attendance at recognised management course
- Intermediate/Advanced level ICM or Obstetrics
- Teaching qualification
- Be on the GMC Specialist Register or be no more than six months from receiving CCT at interview date or SAS/AS signed off by CD to work at Consultant level
- Thorough understanding of the NHS Constitution and its implications
- Management & leadership experience
- Wide general experience of anaesthesia including perioperative medicine and obstetrics
- Ability to contribute to the full range of skills required for the on call rota
- Evidence of clear/lucid written skills
- Experience of teaching and supervision of postgraduate trainees
- Experience of working in multi-disciplinary team
- Experience of Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing
- Ability and willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional or national level
- Evidence of involvement in quality improvement initiatives
- Attendance at "training the trainers" course
- Attendance at assessment and appraisal course
- Presentations at regional/national conferences
