Main duties of the job- Contribute alongside the consultant body to an excellent standard of care covering the full range of specialist diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients requiring anaesthetic services.
- Contribute to safety and quality initiatives and improvement projects undertaken in the trust.
- Supervise and support resident doctors, clinical fellows and specialty doctors.
- Undertake administrative duties associated with the care of patients and the administration of the department.
- Contribute and support departmental meetings.
- Fully comply with requirements for annual appraisal and job planning and maintain an up to date mandatory training record.
- Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practise.
- On GMC Specialist Register for anaesthesia or within 6 months of attainment of CCT in anaesthesia at date of interview.
- FRCA or equivalent anaesthetic experience.
- Completed a recognised period of training leading to a CCT in anaesthesia or has gained equivalent experience.
- Experience in anaesthesia for major surgical procedures including major laparoscopic surgery.
- 6 months experience working in the NHS or equivalent.
- Experience of multidisciplinary pre assessment and pre operative preparation of complex patients.
- Evidence of commitment to service improvement / clinical excellence.
- Broad range of experience specifically in 'outside areas' including paediatric radiotherapy and nuclear medicine, CT, endoscopy.
- Demonstrate an ability to perform the specific clinical procedures relevant to the post.
- Demonstration of a subspecialty interest relevant to this trust in which significant clinical experience gained.
- Understanding of clinical risk management.
- Clear logical thinking showing an analytical / scientific approach.
- Advanced airway management skills and experience of managing difficult airway.
- A Fellowship or other significant specialist experience.
- Ability to cover both the general and obstetric on call rotas as required.
- Appropriate level of clinical knowledge for the post.
- Shows knowledge of evidence informed practice.
- Shows awareness of own limitations.
- Demonstrates breadth of awareness of issues relating to clinical anaesthesia.
- Evidence of participation in clinical governance.
- Evidence of completion of audit cycle or quality improvement initiative.
- Ability to mentor both medical and nursing staff.
- Management course completed or evidence of knowledge of management structures & processes.
- Knowledge or interest in data to improve patient care and utilisation of digitalised systems.
- Teaching on formal educational courses.
- Evidence of involvement in education of colleagues (trainees, AHP's nurses).
- Show a regular commitment to teaching.
- Evidence of research activity & publications.
- Evidence of working with patients / public to deliver research or improve services.
- Higher taught (e.g. MSc) or research (e.g. MD or PhD) degree.
- Evidence of organisational / leadership ability: e.g. setting up and directing courses, educational programmes etc.
- Being familiar with, and adhering to Trust policies and guidance on infection prevention and control.
- Completing all required training and education (both via e learning and face to face) on infection prevention and control.
- Including infection prevention and control as an integral part of your continuous personal/professional development and included in your annual appraisal.
- Taking personal responsibility so far as is reasonably practicable, in helping ensure that effective prevention and control of health care associated infections is embedded into everyday practice and applied consistently.
- Ability to communicate with clarity and intelligently in written and spoken English.
- Ability to build rapport, demonstrate empathy, listen, persuade / negotiate.
- Ability to work as part of an anaesthetic and perioperative team and to develop such teams.
