There is an exciting opportunity for a full time Consultant in Acute Medicine to join the existing team working across WTWA Hospitals. The role supports the Acute Medical and Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) team, which includes 15 consultants and a multidisciplinary team consisting of advanced care practitioners, a consultant nurse, pharmacists, physician associates, physiotherapists, discharge facilitators, senior and junior clinical fellows and rotating doctors in training.
Main Duties of the PostAppointment is a full time 10PA post. Applications for less than full time work or job shares are welcome. The successful candidate will join the medical on call rota, which currently includes 1 in 8 weekends and 1 in 24 weekdays and overnight. The main duties are detailed in the attached Job Description and may be reviewed in light of experience and developments within the service.

Person Specification- Legal Requirement
- Inclusion on the Specialist Register.
- Should either have, or be within 6 months of obtaining a CSST in Acute Medicine.
- Training
- Certificate of completion of specialist training (CCST) in Acute Internal Medicine.
- Attendance at appropriate professional courses.
- Clinical Experience
- Wide experience in all aspects of acute medicine and medicine. Willingness to develop skills as appropriate to the service needs.
- POCUS.
- Leadership.
- Management/Audit
- An understanding of NHS management responsibilities of consultants. Experience of clinical audit.
- Attendance at an appropriate management course.
- Research/Publications
- Evidence of recent and current research, with relevant publications.
- Professional Interests
- Commitment to CPD.
- Membership of appropriate professional society(s). Knowledge of up to date literature.
- Personal Skills
- Ability to communicate and liaise effectively with patients and relatives, and with other multidisciplinary team members.
- Experience of supervising junior medical staff in acute medicine and SDEC work with junior medical staff.
- Ability to work and make patient management decisions on own initiative, whilst seeking guidance from colleagues when required.
- Ability to work as a team with professional colleagues, both medical and other disciplines.
- Enthusiasm for improving the service.
- Experience of supervising junior medical staff and relevant staff in other disciplines.
- Professional Qualifications
- MB BS or equivalent.
- Full registration with the General Medical Council.
- MRCP or equivalent.
- An appropriate higher qualification.
- Teaching
- Interest in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate medical staff as well as other healthcare workers.
- Teaching qualification e.g. PG Cert in Med Ed.
- Circumstances
- Agreement to live within 10 road miles of the hospitals served, or have access by motorway in equivalent period of travelling time.
