Consultant Histopathologist

Applications are invited for a Consultant in Histopathology. The post holder(s) will be required to play an active role in the general workload of the department, whilst the opportunity is available to develop specialist interests.

The post is based at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals. The successful candidate(s) will join a friendly team dedicated to providing a first-class patient centred service. The laboratory is accredited to UKAS (ISO 15189:2022), with a brand new laboratory which opened in 2022. The department has a fantastic mortuary facility (built in 2011) and holds a HTA licence. The department carries out approx. 650 post mortems each year.

Main duties of the job

The post will be based at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS FT. Employed by Lancashire Teaching Hospitals to provide the One Pathology Service across the region. You will work in close co operation with, and support other clinical, medical, professional and managerial colleagues in providing high quality healthcare to the Trust's patients. Integral to these responsibilities is the following:

  • The provision of a first class clinical service
  • Effective leadership to all staff engaged in the specialty
  • Sustaining and developing teaching and research in conjunction with Trust R&D team.
  • Undertaking all work in accordance with the Trust's procedures and operating policies
About us

We are One Pathology Service providing care with the other 3 trusts in Lancashire and Cumbria including Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust and Morecambe Bay Hospitals NHS Trust.

Modern Education Centres are based at both Royal Preston and Chorley and South Ribble Hospital sites and offer excellent library and study facilities, including PC/Internet support for staff and students as well as high tech simulation facilities.

All new Consultants are actively encouraged to be research active and supported in every way to carry out research in this trust.

All newly appointed substantive consultants are enrolled on the award winning Consultant Leadership Programme and as part of that, mentorship is available.

All consultants have annual appraisal with a trained appraiser and are supported with the revalidation process.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • oGMC registration
  • oFellowship of RCPAth or equivalent
  • oCCT if UK trained / equivalent if not UK trained
Experience
  • oExcellent communication skills - both oral and written.
  • oEvidence of thorough and broad training and experience.
  • oAbility to organise and prioritise workload and to delegate responsibility and supervise staff.
