Job Description

The shift pattern for this post is on call rota 1:12

This is a unique opportunity for a Consultant in Geriatric and Stroke Medicine to join Older People & Stroke Services within South sector. This job role will be split as follows: Geriatric medicine: You will share an assessment ward (10 patients), with two colleagues, providing cross cover during their leave periods.

Once weekly you will provide senior leadership in SMH overseeing patients with complex hospital based clinical care needs. Day to day cover there, is provided by a Specialty Doctor whom you will nominally provide oversight for. Stroke Medicine: You will participate in Hyper Acute Stroke on call (1 in 12) covering emergency referrals that include thrombolysis or regional thrombectomy, and including continuity of care for stroke patients in Ward 62 and a weekly fast track TIA clinic.

The role also involves covering 10 stroke rehabilitation beds and attending weekly stroke radiology meetings. In both fields, you will lead multi disciplinary team meetings, supporting complex discharge planning, and provide clinical supervision for Resident Doctors. This post is full time (10 PAs) with flexibility for less than full time applicants and includes time for administration, CPD, audit, clinical governance and job planning, with a minimum of 1 SPA reviewed within 6 months. Applicants must hold full GMC registration with a license to practise and be on (or within 6 months of entry to) the GMC Specialist Register in Geriatric Medicine, Stroke Medicine, or Vacancy Request Form (VRF) Approved January 2024 Page 3 of 9 General Internal Medicine, with strong independent working and team leadership skills and, ideally, experience in complex discharge planning and a passion for this area of practice.
