Consultant Geriatrician - Specialist Interest in Re-ablement Medicine

The Department of Medicine for Older People wishes to appoint a Consultant Geriatrician with a Specialist Interest in Re-ablement Medicine, based at Broadgreen Hospital.
The Department of Medicine for Older People and Stroke (DMOPS) is well-established, with a dynamic team of Geriatricians delivering specialized services for older adults and developing innovative, evidence-based models of care.
Multiple Geriatric Medicine wards are available across all three sites, providing specialized care for older patients. The Broadgreen site focuses on complex cases requiring extended re-ablement, medical optimization, and advanced discharge planning.
Main duties of the jobThe post holder will conduct sessional work on general geriatric and re-ablement wards, collaborating with Geriatrics consultants to deliver comprehensive geriatric assessments (CGA) for inpatient care. These sessions will involve leading multidisciplinary team (MDT) based CGA care.
The inpatient wards have 23 beds with approximately 2-4 new admissions daily.
The role is supported by trainees, junior doctors, and Advanced Nurse Practitioners primarily at the Broadgreen and Royal sites, with additional support from STR on a sessional basis.
Additionally, the post will oversee medical support for two 23-bed re-ablement wards, supported by a specialist MDT with ACP support. This area has been recognized nationally as a model of good practice, developed with ECIST support, emphasizing proactive therapy and nursing-led primary care with consultant oversight.

Person Specification Qualifications- MB ChB or equivalent
- MRCP or equivalent
- Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians
- Higher degree such as MD or PhD
- Full GMC registration and license to practice
- On GMC specialist register for Geriatric and General Medicine or eligible at the time of interview
- CCT in Geriatric and General Medicine (or equivalent training) or 6 months remaining at the time of interview
- Evidence of ongoing medical education
- Experience in Geriatric and General Medicine across relevant specialties and duration for CCT
- Training and education evidence (e.g., PGCE)
- Proven record in significant audit activities
- Publication of audit results
- Research involvement and publications
- Evidence of training and education (e.g., PGCE)
- Experience in delivering undergraduate and postgraduate education
- Good understanding of 'Good Medical Practice' from the GMC
- Proven track record in significant audit and publications
- Involvement and publications in research

Salary: £105,504 to £139,882 per annum + On-Call allowance at 3%
