Job Description
Consultant General Radiologist (part time)

Applications are invited for a Consultant Radiologist post at the Wye Valley NHS Trust (WVT). A part time (6PA) Consultant post is being advertised.

The successful candidate will join the existing establishment of 18 Consultant Radiologists in providing a comprehensive Radiology service to the population of Herefordshire Health District plus a catchment population from mid Wales and referrals from parts of surrounding counties of Shropshire, Worcestershire and Gwent (total population 230,000).

The post holder should have broad radiology experience with the skills expected from a fully trained and experienced general Radiologist.

The post holder will be expected to take part in departmental audit and clinical governance issues, provide training and education to medical and other departmental staff as required and participate in Multi-disciplinary team (MDT) Meetings.

The post holder will be required to participate in the on-call rota which is currently 1 in 14.

Main duties of the job

The job plan and proposed timetable will be organised to meet the needs of the department and will be by mutual agreement. The job plan will be for 6 programmed activities (PA's) to include 1.5 PAs for Core SPA (Appraisal, Revalidation, Job Planning, CPD and Core Department Meetings) plus an additional 1 PA of SPA to develop departmental priorities which can then be normally built into the job plan in subsequent years. Unused SPA time would be expected to be used for direct clinical care.

A degree of flexibility would be expected in relation to the departmental duties, particularly when colleagues are absent on leave to maintain service commitments.

Supporting activity time should be used for teaching, training, education, CPD, audit, appraisal revalidation, administration, research and service development - Evidence will be expected to ensure this time is being used appropriately.

The job plan will be finalised by mutual agreement

Qualifications
  • MBBS, MBChB or equivalent medical qualification
  • FRCR or equivalent
  • Full GMC Registration with licence to practice
  • On GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of obtaining Specialist Registration on date of interview
  • Higher Degree (MD/PHD)
Training and Experience
  • Appropriate training in Radiology
  • Wide experience in all aspects of Radiology
  • Prior experience in lung cancer screening or cardiac CT service delivery
Clinical Knowledge
  • Competent CT and MRI reporting; general ultrasound skills
Audit Management & IT
  • Clinical Audit experience
  • Knowledge of Clinical Governance framework of NHS. Understanding of current changes in the management and organisational structures of NHS.
  • Ability to work within these parameters.
  • Experience with screening QA frameworks and cardiac CT accreditation processes
Personal Qualities
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Excellent communication skills, oral and written, including the ability to communicate and interact effectively with colleagues and patients.
  • Ability to see patients as people, ability to empathise and work flexibly.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to carry out duties as set out in the attached job description competently and subject to any aids and/or adaptations as may reasonably be required.
  • Access to transport.
Service development and Leadership
  • Experience leading or contributing to service development projects; ability to produce business cases and implement clinical pathways
  • Formal training in quality improvement, project management or leadership
Cardiac CT and Screening Competence
  • Commitment to develop Cardiac CT and lung screening services
  • Understanding of CT protocols, QA and governance
  • Experience reporting coronary CTA, calcium scoring, or prior involvement in screening programmes
