Consultant General Adult Psychiatrist S.I. Substance misuse - Mental Health Services, Wicklow for 37 hours per week.

This is an appointment to the HSE Dublin & South East Region on a Public Only
Consultants' Contract 2023 by the Health Service Executive. The initial commitment for this post will be to MHS Wicklow for 37 hours per week. This post may be subject to restructuring in the future to facilitate the reorganisation of acute services in line with new clinical models of acute and community services. It is noted that the post must be congruent with the requirements of, and facilitate implementation of national health policy, the HSE's National Clinical Programmes including commitment to deliver the relevant performance outcomes.

Main Duties of the Job
  • To practice as a Consultant General Adult Psychiatrist S.I. Substance Misuse with the Health Service Executive.
  • Provide outpatient review clinics with an aim to return patients to primary care or their referring consultant as their recovery proceeds and as clinical state allows.
  • Provide teaching and mentoring to NCHDs and teaching to other professions as appropriate.
  • Carry out administrative duties both to allow for the smooth running and development of the Wicklow Mental Health Services and where requested engage in administrative input into wider services.

Information about the organisation

This post is attached to the Dublin South East & East Wicklow Mental Health Service which provides specialist mental health care to a population of 291,282 (as per 2022 census) who reside in Dublin south east and east Wicklow area. This catchment area contains urban and rural areas with some areas of relatively high socio-economic deprivation.

The post holder within the new Dual Diagnosis service will be embedded in the existing Dublin South Wicklow Community Healthcare under the Clinical governance of Mental Health Services and will work collaboratively with the HSE Addiction services under the HSE Social Inclusion and HSE Health and Wellbeing. The post holder will work closely with Community Mental Health Teams (CMHT), HSE addiction Services and the Emergency Department of acute hospital within the region including St Vincent's University Hospital dealing with those experiencing Dual diagnosis of substance misuse and moderate to severe mental illness.

The appointment is whole-time, permanent and pensionable.
The annual salary will be as set out in the Public Only Consultants' Contract 2023. Medical Consultants Salary Scales from 1st June 2026:
€238,221 €251,098 €264,691 €271,846 €278,998 €286,151
The standard working week applying to the post is: 37 hours per week.
The annual leave associated with the post is: 30 Working Days per annum.
