The Department of ENT is recruiting a full-time (10 PA) consultant with a special interest in thyroid surgery to support an enthusiastic and forward thinking team. The department currently has six substantive consultants and is involved in many exciting initiatives, seeking an individual who can complement the existing team and keep the service at the forefront of clinical excellence.
Main responsibilities- Manage general ENT conditions with a special interest in thyroid surgery.
- Attend regional Thyroid MDT and comply with guidance provided by the MDT.
- Provide ENT emergency care in the district general hospital.
- Participate in training of specialist registrars, foundation doctors and GP trainees.
- Deliver four clinics and two theatre sessions each week, with a 1:6 on call duty.
- Full Registration with the GMC.
- Completion of higher training (CCT or within 6 months of obtaining) or CESR.
- Specific interest in thyroid surgery.
- Ability to work flexibly in a changing health service.
- Excellent manner with patients, being sensitive to their needs and fears.
- Effective communication with patients, relatives, GPs, nurses and other health professionals.
- Willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional and national levels.
- Ability to communicate effectively with external agencies and other disciplines.
- Ability to offer sound clinical opinion on a range of acute medical conditions.
- Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients.
- Experience in managing and leading medical/surgical teams.
- Leadership in ensuring smooth and efficient running of the unit.
- Ability to organize, prioritize and manage a high intensity workload.
- Experience supervising junior medical staff.
- Commitment to formal and informal teaching of medical staff, AHPs and medical students.
- Evidence of participation in audit, quality improvement projects and practice changing audits.
- Experience of teaching and training in clinical courses (e.g., IMPACT Course, Faculty, ALS Instructor, ALERT Instructor).
- Published original peer reviewed research.
- Full Registration with the GMC.
- Completion of higher training (CCT or within 6 months of obtaining) or CESR.
- Post CCT fellowship (where applicable).

Salary: £109,725 to £145,478 per annum (pro rata, YC72 Pay Scale).
