Job Description

Our client, a respected housing association, is recruiting for an experienced Contentious Construction Lawyer. This in-house role involves managing complex legal matters related to latent defects and contentious construction law, providing strategic legal support on procurement and contracts.

Ideal candidates will be solicitors with strong litigation experience in construction and a good understanding of the property sector. Responsibilities include providing legal advice, drafting contractual documents, and supporting legal initiatives within the organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage latent defect claims and litigation files.
  • Draft legal advice for internal stakeholders.
  • Provide expertise on construction law topics such as payments, delays, defects, procurement, and insurance.
  • Assist with adjudication and arbitration submissions.
  • Oversee legal proceedings in the Technology & Construction Court.
  • Draft and review legal agreements, including NEC and JCT contracts.
  • Maintain the organization's contract precedent library.
  • Advise on procurement strategies and contract structures.
  • Deliver training and legal guidance to non-legal teams.
  • Support resolution of complex disputes and pre-litigation strategies.
The Candidate
  • Qualified solicitor with at least 3 years' PQE in contentious construction law.
  • Experience with latent defect claims and dispute resolution.
  • Knowledge of construction contracts, including JCT, NEC, and public sector frameworks.
  • Understanding of relevant legislation and regulations.
  • Strong drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Experience in housing, local authority, or public sector construction is desirable.
