The Community Staff Nurse in the School Nurse Team is a registered general nurse working as part of the public health nursing team to provide preventative and supportive healthcare to children, young people, and their families.
The post holder works with a public health focus under the supervision of a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN) with a defined population.
As part of the public health nursing team, the post holder collaborates with a wider multi-disciplinary and inter-agency team to offer public health services to the community.
The work takes place in various settings, including home, clinic, and community venues.
Base
Our Healthy Family Teams support our Surrey-wide service, and you will be based at one of our Office Hubs across Surrey with the opportunity for hybrid working.

Main duties of the job- Deliver the healthy child programme at four levels as delegated by the SCPHN.
- Recognize health needs for individual clients and situations, sometimes in complex circumstances, and refer for support from Public Health Specialists when necessary.
- Undertake health assessments in schools.
- Participate in relevant case conferences and inter-agency meetings as delegated by the SCPHN, including health needs assessments and care planning.
- Support the SCPHN in providing targeted support to children at risk or with complex needs, ensuring Partnership Plus plans are in place.
- Identify, prioritize, and implement programmes of support responding to public health needs of the school-age population.
- Conduct full assessments of individual public health needs and provide support or referrals, specifically in sexual health, smoking, and weight management.
- Offer advice and support to children, young people, and families based on evidence-based practice.

Essential
- Registered Nurse
- Child Protection awareness
- Knowledge of national and local policy in Children's Service and Public Health
- Experience working with children and young people
- Understanding of child and adolescent development
- Ability to apply theory to practice
- Knowledge of clinical governance
- Excellent IT skills, able to use electronic client records such as SystmOne or Emis
Desirable
- Recent degree-level study evidence
- Knowledge of Family Planning and sexual health
- Understanding of Healthy Schools
Other requirements: Full UK Driving Licence with insured vehicle for business use.
