Job Description: JOB PURPOSE:The Community Service Worker will provide service to customers, sort incoming products and assist in the maintenance of all store operations and facility, including external grounds.ACCOUNTABILITIES:The incumbent may perform all, some, or similar range of duties: Work with our Community Connections program to develop youth and senior programming for the communities of Robert's Arm and Pilley's Island Work as part of the Thrift Store team; serving as clerk, implementing store layouts and standards, sorting and receiving inventory, etc. Research, assist with, and/or implement programming possibilities in association with community events Performing other duties as assigned by direct supervisor and related to Thrift Store and community needs Ensure the general upkeep of external property such as mowing lawns, picking up litter, sweeping sidewalks, gardening/watering and planting shrubs, pruning and weeding and raking Ensure proper storage and basic maintenance of equipment Perform other duties as assigned Be responsible for managing own timeWORKING CONDITIONS: Work environment is typically at the facilities in generally agreeable conditions. Some duties (groundskeeping) should be performed outdoors The performance of the job requires operating industrial equipment and tools, reaching, bending, twisting, lifting, and fine motor skills Requires moderate to high attention when handling hazardous chemicals and using non-motorized/general cleaning equipment Position requires significant walking and lifting Ability to lift/move up to 25 pounds Requires working in various weather conditions Use gloves Use ear/eye protection (goggles) Use fume masks where appropriate Use steel-toe bootsEDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and proceduresEducation, Qualifications and Certifications: Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion.Experience and Knowledge: Knowledge of Health & Safety Standards.Skills and Capabilities: Represent the organization in a professional, and engaging manner. Ability to work independently and also participate as an active and responsible team member in a cooperative team environment. Self-motivated and reliable Skill in making change involving all denominations of Canadian currency. Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality Effective organizational and time management skills. Attention to detail and problem-solving skills. Exhibit good listening and interpersonal skills, Must comply with all Salvation Army policies, procedures, and associated legislationThis is a temporary position start June 29th and ending on August 28th Compensation: The target hiring range for this position is $16.35 to $19.50 with a maximum of $22.64.Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.The Salvation Army will provide reasonable accommodation upon request.
