We're a small, agile and fast-growing social enterprise looking for a part-time communications manager to consolidate and grow our social media and media presence.

Job Description

Job Title: Communications Manager (Part-time)

Location: London / hybrid

Rate: £25 per hour. Freelance contract, to be reviewed annually.

Time commitment: 8-10 hours per week. Hours to be worked across the week (Monday-Thursday, ), or in two half days.

Start date: 22 September 2025.

About Us

Untold Narratives CIC works with writers structurally marginalised by community or conflict, to develop and amplify their work. Untold supports these writers to develop their writing, share their stories with wider communities in their own languages, and reach new global audiences in translation.

Job Requirements

Skills and experience:

  • Experience in communications and social media.
  • Strong knowledge of the UK media landscape; charity and literature industry contacts are a plus.
  • Issues and crisis communications experience.
  • Team player with experience working with virtual teams across markets and regions.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills across different formats and platforms.
  • Some experience of editing video content.
  • Experience in growing a significant social media presence and newsletter audience.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, WordPress, Mailchimp, and Canva.

Personality and interests:

  • Creative thinker.
  • Sensitivity regarding the security and safety of participants in Untold's programs.
  • A background in communications with a keen interest in the field.
  • Knowledge of the global literary sector, including literature in translation, freedom of expression, and writers at risk.
  • Thrives in small, agile, and committed teams.
Job Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement strategic communication plans supporting Untold's strategy , including content creation and publication.
  • Build and maintain Untold's narrative, ensuring consistency across all channels and events.
  • Design and execute media relations and engagement strategies reflecting Untold's CIC status.
  • Identify and manage potential issues and opportunities proactively.
  • Support executive engagement, including press outreach and speaking engagements.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders in charity, literature, and human rights sectors, and engage third-party advocates.
  • Manage and update Untold's website and quarterly newsletter.
  • Create communication reports for funders and the board.
  • Attend industry events to build and maintain relationships with relevant organizations.
