Job Description

The Coalition for Good Schools is a group of leaders from the Global South who are engaged in the global debate on preventing violence against children (VAC) in schools. We elevate insights and evidence-based programs from the Global South in order to provide critical tools, data, and best practices for sustainable, local solutions. As the global movement to prevent VAC advances, we see this as a moment to further build this field by and for civil society and highlight innovations and voices from the Global South. We believe this lens will yield new answers, which is why we aim to build a Global South-led agenda to end VAC in schools.

To achieve this, carefully strategised communications work is essential. When we started, we engaged communications experts to help us develop comprehensive branding toolkits and guidelines, an initial web presence and website, and a suite of communications materials. We are now seeking the services of a skilled communications strategist to help us further refine our messaging, make strategic use of key communications materials and support cross-regional communications campaigns to more firmly cement VAC in schools as a global priority.

Scope of work

The Coalition seeks an individual consultant to help our co-founders manage the communication work for the Coalition. Specifically, the collaborating partner will work closely with the Coalition's Global Hub to:

  • Finalise a draft communications strategy to guide our annual communications efforts, working closely and aligning with three Regional Hubs in Latin America, Asia and Africa to harmonise all strategies under a unified approach.
  • Review and build on existing branding materials and guidelines, including templates, banners, design layouts for reports and briefs, and a public-facing media press kit to share with members.
  • Co-lead design and implementation of a global communications campaign on preventing VACiS in collaboration with regional hubs and partners.
  • Conduct short 1-2-hour capacity strengthening sessions on communications good practices for regional hubs and Coalition members.
  • Produce up to 12 short video/audio perspectives (3 to 5 min) pieces on why Coalition members believe in this work and the role civil society must play.
  • Produce a series of up to ten podcasts exploring key questions about VAC prevention in schools, co-developed by and hosted by the Coalition.
  • Develop an 'onboarding kit' for new and potential members and partners
  • Manage MailChimp platform to send out regular updates on Coalition progress and civil society milestones to the field of VACiS prevention.
  • Oversee shared use of Coalition social media accounts (LinkedIn and BlueSky) organised through content calendars with Regional Hubs.
  • Create new visual content for these posts in line with Coalition branding and support Regional Hub coordinators on branding guidelines in external comms.
  • Build and maintain a photo/video bank drawing from Coalition members.
Role Requirements
  • A strategic and discerning eye - and demonstrated passion - for dynamic communications for violence prevention, child protection or gender transformative education.
  • Proven track record of managing communications for non-profits, advocacy groups, activist organisations or similar at a strategic level.
  • Superb English written and spoken communication skills (additional skills in Spanish in particular will be a strong asset).
  • Experience with design software (InDesign, Adobe, Canva, etc.) for simple visual design elements for social media engagements.
  • Understanding of MailChimp, WordPress and generally tech savvy.
  • Experience drawing from diverse opinions and viewpoints from a diverse coalition of actors to maintain a common visual identity.
  • An understanding of current international development and social justice issues in the Global South.
  • Experience in / understand of VAC prevention and/or education will be a major asset.
